Aloha and Welcome!
About my imagery: The process I undertake for creating each new
work, from beginning to end, is guided by a stream of consciousness
which focuses more on establishing a certain feeling or mood rather
than defining specific shapes. Initially, I let my pencil/pen move
and dance across the paper seemingly at will to create outlines
consisting of various shapes juxtaposed to each other in a certain
order. Although as I progress in the work and see certain shapes
and combinations of shapes take on recognizable form(s), I continue
to let the consciousness driving the pen/pencil guide my efforts
along rather than be influenced by what I am seeing with my eyes.
When I sense that the outlines are complete, I momentarily stop
and prepare for the next step in the process. With preparations
complete, I next redirect my ‘creative flow’ to add
contrast, shading and shadow to the outlines and shapes. In essence,
I’m creating the ‘heart’ of my new work and when
this step in the process is completed, I’ll have created what
can best be described as a sort of ‘doodle’ because
in all likelihood it is probably no more than 5" x 7"
in size, and may or may not have been done on an appropriate sheet
of art paper (when the feeling to create hits, I use what is readily
available at that particular time and place such as notebook paper,
the back of a Power-Point presentation, envelope etc.). My next
step along the process is to use a wide variety of pencils (and
the proper art paper) to make an 8" x 10" enlargement
of the ‘doodle’. When the enlargement is completed,
it is then digitized and placed on my computer. I’m now ready
to undertake both the most satisfying as well as challenging step
in the process. I begin by positioning the digitized 8" x 10"
enlargement so that it serves as the bottom layer and foundation
to my composition. I then digitally paint and build successive layers
of elements upon it to create an image such as the ones found in
my gallery. Once this step in the process is completed, the digitized
final image is ready to be professionally printed. I consider the
printing of the image the final step, and the print itself, the
completed new work. Most important, I give all the praise to God
for bestowing upon me the artistic talent by which I endeavor to
glorify his name.
